This is something I never thought I’d be doing.
Earlier this year, Spectral Core asked me to create the artwork for its trade show booth at SQLBits 2026, one of the largest conferences for the Microsoft data platform community. The event's creative theme was "cartoon," with exhibitors encouraged to reference characters from classic studio animations.
We decided to play it safe and use a character in the public domain. Fortunately, we found one we loved: Popeye! —a strong fit for Spectral Core's brand.
I designed the booth's large-format display panels and also produced an animated promotional video featuring Popeye introducing Spectral Core's database migration and conversion tools. It was a fun opportunity to combine illustration, branding, and motion graphics for a major technology conference.
